Why choose us for your psychological therapy?
We understand that mental health difficulties or problems in relationships can affect us all and, here at Cooley Psychological Wellbeing, we believe that everyone can benefit from psychological therapy, no matter who they are or what problems they are facing. But we know that making the first step to reach out for help can feel daunting, even choosing the ‘right’ therapist can feel like an overwhelming task. You can be confident that our Chartered Clinical Psychologist, Dr Robyn Cooley, will meet your courage to engage in therapy with the compassion and respect you deserve.
Perhaps you don’t know exactly what’s wrong, or where your difficulties started? Or maybe your experience of difficult life events has changed the way you connect with yourself and others around you? During your initial psychological assessment, Dr Robyn Cooley will provide a safe space for you to share your story, without judgment. Her collaborative approach means you will work together to find a shared understanding of your difficulties. Robyn will draw on psychological theory to develop a ‘formulation’ of your presenting concerns, which will directly inform your treatment plan and you can agree together on the most helpful type of therapy for you.
Dr Robyn Cooley has over 10 years of experience in supporting people to explore their distress, which may cause unwanted behaviours, difficulties with their mental health and in relationships, or problems at work. Her extensive training and experience working with a broad range of difficulties means you can feel confident that you will receive clinically-informed and evidence-based therapy that draws from a range of psychological models, delivered in the way that suits you best. In working with Robyn, you can be assured that you will receive therapy delivered with a high level of professional skill and that she will work passionately to help you achieve positive change.
Dr Robyn Cooley works beyond symptom reduction, to explore the root of your difficulties. Engaging honestly and openly with therapy can feel hard and it requires commitment to look at things that might feel painful. But clients reflect time and time again that these efforts can enable you to disentangle yourself from emotional, behavioural and relational patterns and bring about life changing results. Be assured that compassion is at the heart of all our work and Robyn will provide a safe place for you to connect with your pain, without judgement and with the confidence that your efforts in therapy will be rewarded with positive changes and a renewed connection with yourself, others and the world.

Initial Psychological Assessment
Initial psychological assessments with our Chartered Clinical Psychologist, Dr Robyn Cooley, are typically scheduled for 90 minutes. This ensures enough time to establish a shared understanding of your difficulties, goals for your therapy and to develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. If after the assessment we do not feel that our skills best suit your needs, we will offer further advice, signposting or referrals to a service that will provide the support you need.
We find that committing to weekly or fortnightly sessions supports good therapeutic outcomes. Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. Depending on your goals, at the start of your therapy you may wish to set a fixed number of sessions or enter into a more open ended agreement.
Letters and Reports
We can provide you, your employer or other healthcare providers with a letter confirming your appointments at no extra charge. A summary of, or full report pertaining to your psychological assessment and / or therapy can be written for an additional fee.
Dr Robyn Cooley will offer a free, 15-minute telephone consultation to understand why you are seeking therapy and to discuss the questions you may have. This means you can decide whether you wish to progress with assessment and therapy without committing to pay for a full initial assessment. Alternatively, you can come for an initial assessment with no obligation to return for continuing therapy.
